Water Industry Operators Association of Australia Privacy Policy
WIOA is aware that you care about how your personal information is used. WIOA endeavours to use your information sensibly and with integrity. This document sets out our privacy commitments in respect of personal information that you provide to us.
Your personal information and our commitment to protecting your privacy
In your relationship with WIOA, you may share personal information with us. This personal information may include details such as your name, address, telephone numbers, email address, bank account or credit card details and possibly date of birth.
Collection and use of your personal information
We will only collect your personal information which is necessary for our purposes, which include:
- enabling us to provide you with services and/or products;
- enabling us to carry out the transactions you request;
- providing you with effective customer service; and
- communicating with you, such as to let you know of other services and/or products which might interest you.
The personal information we request is optional for you to provide, but we may not be able to fulfill your request or provide you with our full range of products and services without that information.
Disclosure of your personal information
WIOA will do its best to obtain consent for any secondary WIOA related use of the information and has a policy of not selling or disclosing this information outside of the WIOA organisational structure.
We may disclose your information to other third parties necessary to process your transactions or provide you with our goods and/or services. Examples of such third parties include our print service providers, publication mail houses, accountants, auditors, lawyers and advisers.
We may also use or disclose your personal information if required or authorised to do so by law, or if we reasonably believe that it is necessary to lessen or prevent a serious and imminent threat to an individual’s health or public safety. For example, we may disclose your personal information to a court in response to a subpoena or to the Australian Taxation Office.
Personal information collected by us may be stored and processed in any country in which the WIOA organisation maintains facilities. You consent to any such transfer of information out of your country.
Rights you have in relation to the personal information we collect from you
We take all reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we collect, use and disclose is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
If you would like to view or correct the details of your personal information which are held by us (such as in the case where you become aware of an error), you can do so by making a formal request to us. WIOA members may request details of or update their personal information by sending a signed fax, email or letter requesting WIOA to provide or update records. WIOA will also update information over the telephone (such as new mailing addresses) provided sufficient identification of the caller can be ascertained. Members may also elect to receive all communication from WIOA in either hard copy mailed, or electronic format (delivered as email).
Protection of your personal information
We take all reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, modification and disclosure.
We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the fax or Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Electronic mail sent to us that contains personal information
From time to time, WIOA members may send WIOA personal identifying information via e-mail. WIOA will only use this information to update our member database unless expressly requested otherwise.
If we send you an email which you do not wish to receive in the future, please notify us and your email address will be removed from our system.
Normal web site usage
You can visit our web site at www.wioa.org.au and view information about WIOA, its services and events, corporate partners, view archived conference papers etc, without telling WIOA who you are and without revealing any personal information. When users visit our web site, we track only the following information:
- Internet Service Provider
- Pages requested by each user
- Time and date of user requests
Tracking or passive information collection technologies
A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user’s computer for record-keeping purposes. We use cookies on the WIOA website. We do not link the information we store in cookies to any personally identifiable information you submit while on our site.
We use session ID cookies to make it easier for you to navigate our site. A session ID cookie expires when you close you browser.
If you reject cookies, you may still use our site, but your ability to use some areas of our site will be limited.
External sites
You may be able to access external websites from the WIOA site by clicking on links we have provided. Those websites are not subject to this privacy policy and we are not responsible for their privacy practices or the content of such other websites. You should contact those websites directly to ascertain their privacy standards, policies and procedures.
Personally identifiable information
We do not share personally identifiable information about Individual Members with current or potential corporate members without the consent of the Individual Member. WIOA does however, supply the contact details of Corporate Supporters supplying particular products or services to Individual Members on request. This is deemed to be delivering a service to the Corporate Supporter and is consistent with the benefits and services communicated to all corporate members when taking up membership.
Other information
If for any reason you believe that WIOA has not adhered to this privacy policy, please notify us by e-mail at info@wioa.org.au, and we will use commercially reasonable efforts to promptly determine and correct the problem. If you have any specific questions regarding your information and/or our privacy policy, please notify us by e-mail at the above email address.
Changes to this privacy policy
This privacy policy has been adopted by us to be consistent with the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) as set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The NPPs can be found at www.privacy.gov.au. We may change our privacy policy from time to time to comply with new laws or industry codes of practice which are developed. It is your responsibility to refer to our privacy policy from time to time to familiarise yourself with any changes.
